About the area
There are some interesting sights and events in this town. Just a few miles up American Fork canyon you can find Timpanogos Cave National monument consisting of Hansen Cave and two other caves. However put on your hiking shoes; this attraction is located about 1 1/2 miles from the parking lot in the canyon. Also you can reach Alpine Scenic Loop Byway with its year round displays of beautiful scenery at the base of American Fork Canyon. The annual Highland Fling celebration at Heritage park held at the end of July features a Baby Contest, Art Show, Kids Night, Play Day Rodeo, Give Me a Chance, I’ll Show You My Dance Highland dance competition and the Youth City Council Dance in the park. On the last day of this event there is the all day Heritage Park stage entertainment followed by fireworks. The Highland Town Center plaza splash pad which opens on Memorial and closes on Labor Day can be enjoyed by young and old and it usually is. The city also maintains a number of baseball and soccer fields as well as nine parks one of which, Heritage park, is the home of the Highland Cabin. This one room log cabin, the oldest known home in Highland, was built sometime between 1890 and 1896 and moved to the park in the Spring of 1991.
