About the area |
A small grove of trees and the promise of a land with water and rich soil first drew pioneers to this town area, at first known Battle Creek, around 1850. With the battles with Indians and pioneers still in their minds; it was recommended that they built a fort. This was followed by the erection of a meeting house and school house. To add to the fear of the Indians and also had to face famine and hunger was the fire which destroyed the meeting house which was also used as a storehouse. The settlers then grew strawberries which led to the celebration of Strawberry Days even after the crop was no longer grown here. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers museum has on display exhibits which chronicle the early days of Pleasant Grove. Concerts in the Park on the grounds of the Pleasant Grove Community center during the Summer on Sunday evenings. The concerts feature musical group, instrumental and orchestra presentations.
