Salem District Court is among the four district courts of Utah county which lie in the Fourth Judicial district of Utah.
About the area
Two settlers in the Spring of 1851 discovered what the Indians in the area of Salem already knew; that the local springs bubbled up through sandy soil in this tree shaded hollow. They also found a large, clear stream flowing through a hollow which they could dam to conserve the water for farming. They soon built the dam and moved their families here along with other settlers; founding the town called Pond Town. By around 1853 they abandoned the town because of the threat of Indian attacks and the harshness of Winter. Around 1856 a family purchased the land from the original settlers and moved to this new town. When the threat of attacks was significantly reduced around 1870 additional settlers moved to the town. Completion of the Salem Canal around 1869 and the the Strawberry Valley Irrigation Project led to the establishment of wheat and other grain crops as well as tomatoes and peas later to be joined by sugar beets. Celebration of the city's founding is held during Salem Days at the beginning of August. The Salem City Community center is the scene of concerts and other events. The Nebo Philharmonic orchestra which performs throughout Utah holds at least one concert at this location. There are some very picturesque locations in this town; one of which is the Salem pond with its footbridge. It's located in Knoll park. Take the kids here to see the ducks, geese and swan who live here or enjoy a little lunch on one of the picnic tables.
