IS 15 brushes the Northwest part of Hurricane and SR 9 runs through the town while SR 59 visits for a short time.
About the area
If you believe the stories, the town was given its name by a Mormon leader who upon having the top blow off a buggy he was driving declared “Well, that was a Hurricane. We’ll name this the Hurricane Hill.” The story of all that and the history of the area can be found in the statuary and museum displays at Hurricane Valley Pioneer Heritage park and museum. The Hurricane Canal which was built around 1893 delivered water from the upper reaches of the Virgin River and delivered it to the town of Hurricane. Hurricane is the gateway to Zion National park with its large sandstone cliffs of cream, pink and red.
