Staunton is the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United State. His birthplace, a restored Greek Revival manse has Wilson family possessions and is decorated with period furnishings. The Woodrow Wilson museum has seven galleries dealing with Wilson's early years, his eventful presidency, suffrage, prohibition and World War I. Wilson's restored 1919 Pierce-Arrow limousine is on exhibit. The World War I trench exhibit is something to see. It has lights and sound so that you can experience what life was like for soldiers as they engaged in battle. In this exhibit there are also also authentic weapons and uniforms. |
