The Blackfriars Playhouse, home of the American Shakespeare center is unique. The Playhouse was built to re-create. the indoor theatre that Shakespeare and his fellow actors, The King's Men, used for indoor performances. If you go to a performance here, where costumes and staging mirror those of The King's Men; you can almost imagine yourself back in Shakespeare's time. Music played by local bands, good food and children painting the streets with sidewalk chalk are all part of the of the annual Staunton Jams held downtown in May. |
