Buena Vista Magistrate

Buena Vista Magistrate is located within Rockbridge county in the Twenty-Fifth judicial district of Virginia. Hearings are only held by video conference with this office.

The town was founded in the late 1800's by one enterprising man, as the town of Green Forest, with just a tannery. When the railroads came around 1880; he had bigger ideas. He acquired a pulp mill and a canning factory and some other businesses and brought in the Appold & Sons Tannery. As 1888 was drawing to a close the Buena Vista Company was formed and began selling stock to accumulate funds to to lay out the town and recruit people and industries. At this time the name of the town was changed to Buena Vista. People here have not forgotten how to have fun. They use the Glen Maury Park, which covers over 300 acres with picnic shelters, tennis courts, an outdoor roller skating rink, nature trails, ball fields, an Olympic size swimming pool, a wading pool, river fishing and an 18-hole golf course as well as numerous neighborhood parks.
