The The Fairfax museum, which is located in the former Fairfax Elementary school, circa 1873, is co-located with the visitor center. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museums exhibits generally display items related to the history of the county. Another interesting museum located here is the National Firearms museum. Its exhibits display over 2,000 historic firearms covering a period of 600 years. Not only can you see the oldest gun in America, a wheel lock musket that came over on the Mayflower, Kentucky rifles, oddities & curiosities, military arms and sporting guns; but also guns which belonged to Dwight Eisenhower, Theodore Roosevelt, Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill Cody, Napoleon, Chuck Yeager, Jesse James, Tom Selleck and our Olympic gold medallists and national champions.
