They have not forgotten about the Civil War in these parts and it's all brought to life in May when Civil War Living History day is presented by the Floyd County Historical Society at the Phlegar House. The day consists of Civil War camp life exhibits, soldier and home-front presentations and military demonstrations. If your family history goes back a way in this area, this is your opportunity to look for your local Civil War ancestors in the society's records. Lest you think that's all that goes on in these areas, there is plenty of fun to be had at the annual Mardi Gras Costume ball and the Floyd Contra Dance at the Sun Music hall held every second Saturday, September through June by the Blue Ridge Country Dancers. |
