About the area

The Charles H. Taylor Arts center now stands on the site of the original The Charles H.Taylor Memorial library which was closed and replaced by the Hampton Public library on the adjoining site. The Armstrong Galleries occupy the original part of the building and the rest of the building is given up to the American Theatre. Originally a motion picture and vaudeville house the theater now offers productions of musical and theatrical performances. For those who can't enough of aviation history and experiences, a visit to the Virginia Air & Space center is in order. The museum has four featured galleries. The Adventures in Flight gallery where replicas and simulators give you the experience in such things as a ride in a WWII bomber, the air and spacecraft display, a Ham Radio exhibit with its fully-automatic, digital Amateur Radio satelllite station and the new hands-on Space gallery.
