If you are a Civil War buff, an area to visit is Grant's Headquarters at City Point. From the Appomattox Plantation, Grant directed the siege of Petersburg and the remainder of the Union forces battles. The village was used during the Civil War as a supply center for approximately 100,000 Union soldiers. The National Park Service conducts tours which include the parlor, library, Grant’s cabin and outbuildings. Most of us are too young to remember the mail order house sold by Sears in the 1920's and 1930's. However if you travel through the Crescent Hills neighborhood of Hopewell you will catch a glimpse of several of these house bought and assembled on site from the Sears, Roebuck & Company catalog. The Prince George County Heritage center has exhibits displaying artifacts and stories representative of the society and cultures the natives to the land, the English settlers, the African –Americans, the Czech-Slovaks and people of other origin who settled in Prince George county.
