Although at one time hardwood trees were everywhere in this county they have largely been replaced by loblolly or Virginia pines. a significant contributor to the economy of the county are Timber and timber products. The logs harvested here are trucked to mills in the region. The Tavern museum is unusual both in its interior appearance and items displayed. Part of the interior is a restoration of old Fary’s Tavern with its dining room, parlor and two bedrooms. The items on display are early fossils and sharks teeth, a piece of a Fort Mataponi cannon from the 1600's at, a spy glass used in the Revolution and the Civil War, an 18th century ladies’ cloth cap, and pictures of early schools and churches. a featured exhibit has in it early tools used in King and Queen County by farmers, watermen and carpenters. |
