The county seat is the unincorporated city of King William which is known also as the King William Courthouse. The County was created from territories coming from the New Kent County back in the late 1600s and the first legislation has references pointing to its beginning at West Point. One of the actual commercial activities developed by the residents of King William is the harvesting of the fine woods from the area.
