There are several historical sites to visit in this city. Among then are the Academy of Fine Arts theater which started out as the Academy of Music Theatre around 1900 with appearances by performers such asGeorge M. Cohan, Will Rogers, Paderewski, and Ethyl Barrymore; Renaissance theatre, the one time Bailey Spencer Hardware Store a 100 year old building; the Anne Spencer house and museum, the former home of Anne Spencer famous poet and civil rights activist; the Miller-Claytor House an 18th century town house and Lynchburg museum located in Lynchburgâs second court house, completed in the Greek Revival style, circa 1855. Lynchburg and this Central Virginia region are the site of many beautiful public gardens. You can visit the Dorothy Crandall Bliss Botanic Garden, the Appalachian Power Arboretum, Avoca Museum and Gardens and Dinwiddie Arboretum and the Awareness Garden. |
