About the area

At one time New Kent was a part of Charles River county. Settlers came t o New Kent from England in the 1650's and named the county for Kent, EnGland. Barhamsville has a fairly young population with a good median household income. The housing is relatively new here averaging about 25 years. Large plantations and palatial manor houses were the norm for the early settlers who received grants of land. Although many of the houses built at the time are still standing, they are not open to the public.
