| About the area |
The House of Burgesses formed New Kent county in the 1650's by taking a portion of what was then York County. A goodly portion of the county is populated by pine and hardwood trees. Agriculture is till a significant part of the economy although the Colonial Downs Race Track contributes to the county's income and employment. The annual New Kent County fair is held each September at the race track.
