Ralph Sampson park is named for the 7-foot-4 phenom, three-time College Player of the Year, Number. 1 pick in the 1983 NBA Draft, NBA Rookie of the Year, with the Houston Rockets who was born and raised in Harrisonburg. The park is equipped with picnic shelters, restroom facilities, tennis courts, basketball courts, playground equipment, a sports field, natural surface walking trail and horseshoe pits. This park is the scene each year of an important event, the annual Harrisonburg-Rockingham African American festival in June. You will be entertained by the activities, crafts, art, music, food and exhibitors. If you enjoy Disc golf, come to the Westover Disc Golf Course for the annual Local Disc Golf Ace race in late September. |
