Marion Magistrate

Marion Magistrate serves Smyth county in the Twenty-Eight judicial district of Virginia.

If you have not been to a theater built in Art Deco Mayan Revival-style you might want to go to one of the performances at the Lincoln theatre in Marion. Built around 1929 to present movies and vaudeville, this showplace has been completely restored and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Stars such as Roy Rogers, Ralph Stanley, Roy Acuff as well as others have performed before audiences here. The auditorium now seats close to 500 and its walls are still lined with a beautiful feature, six historical murals which have been restored to their original condition. The showplace now has performances throughout the year. Strange name for a state park, Hungry Mother State park, but a place where you can find much to enjoy. There's a sandy beach with bathhouse, boats, a boat launch an accessible fishing pier, campgrounds, cabins, gift shop, visitor center, a six-bedroom family lodge, hiking and biking trails and restaurant. The name apparently stems from the cries of a child of a hostage family who had escaped the Indians when found by a search party somewhere North of the Raiders base at the park.
