Abingdon Magistrate serves Washington county in the Twenty-Eighth judicial district of Virginia.
About the area
For those who are star struck, like in Hollywood star struck, there's the Star museum in Abingdon. This place is the result of one Abingdon native's aggressive approach to collecting all kinds of odd things related to the actors and actresses. There are such memorabilia here as James Dean's underpants, Bette Davis's stuffed animals, John Barrymore's sock garters and Louis Armstrong's dinner jacket. The founder personally conducts each tour of the facility providing stories for each item on display. There are two historic structures in this area worth seeing. The Hagy House, circa 1805, log home is unusual because it exhibits German design influences in a region usually associated with the Scots-Irish. Fields-Penn House, circa 1860, has been restored and reflects the life style of a well off family before the Civil War. It is now a house museum completely furnished with period antiques.
