In this land of historic buildings and crisp mountain air there are places where one can just sit back and enjoy some exciting music and theatrical performances. Although not erected at the very beginnings of Abingdon, the Great Depression era Barter Theatre is now the State Theatre of Virginia. This showplace presents musicals, classics, comedies, dramas and new Southern and Appalachian plays performed February through December each year on two stages, Barter Theatre and Barter Stage II. The stage at the Abingdon Market Pavilion is the scene each Thursday evening from May to September of Thursday Jams produced by the Abingdon Music Experience. At this venue you can expect to see and hear nationally recognized artists perform for your pleasure. |
