A Spanish explorer discovered the deep-water harbor, which had been a fishing village for the Lower Elwha S'Klallam Tribe, before 1800. The mid-1800s saw the city established as the location of the Custom House. Port Angeles appeared before 1900. William R. Fairchild International Airport which serves Port Angeles; is more than 75 years old and has been operated by the Port of Port Angeles for more than 50 years. It's primary runway can handle aircraft as large as a Boeing 737 (sounds good for Southwest Airlines, even here in the Northwest). There are a number of daily round trip flights between Port Angeles and Seattle’s Boeing Field plus charters. Peninsula College,whose primary campus is located here, is a community college preparing students for professional and technical employment. |
