About the area |
Pedestrians and athletic enthusiasts can take advantage of the âwalking bridgeâ across the Columbia river as part of their hike along the extensive Apple Capital Riverfront Loop Trail. The bridge was completed in 1908 and was the first form of reliable transportation between the Wenatchee area and the then sparsely-inhabited lands to the east; formerly provided by ferries, which were sometimes powered by oars, sails, or horses. A pipeline system was built across the bridge and came from the High Line Canal. Irrigation waters enabled the planting of orchards and turned the East Wenatchee area into a thriving agricultural hub.
