About the area |
A settler from Maine first settled on the banks of the Chehalis River near present-day South Montesano in 1852. In 1860, this same settler's house was selected as the county seat and he became the postmaster. In the right place at the right time. A water-powered saw mill was established in the 1860's. On October 9, 1883, Montesano officially became a city. The city continued to grow until today when the population numbers over 3000; although from 1883 to 1890 the city experienced its greatest growth. |
