About the area |
The land area of Port Orchard, originally called Sidney, was purchased and plotted for the creation of a town in1886. Shortly after, the Port Orchard Navy Yard was commisioned through the efforts of the Port Orchard residents. Twice the town lost many of its buildings to fire but with the determination of the town all was rebuit . A Hardy group those residents. The Log Cabin Museum houses changing exhibits of home life in the South Kitsap area during the past 100 years and is located on its original site.
