About the area |
The area is bounded by two large bodies of water; the Pacific Ocean and Willapa Bay. A few miles to the South of Long Beach lies the Cape Disappointment lighthouse. This lighthouse which is located in Cape Disappointment State Park; almost did not come into being. A ship carrying lighthouse construction materials sank two miles off shore. The park occupies 1,882 acres lying on the Pacific Ocean. There visitors can take in great ocean, Columbia River, North Head Lighthouse and Cape Disappointment Lighthouse views. The old-growth forest, lakes, freshwater and saltwater marshes in the park, as well as streams and tidelands along the ocean make it a great place to visit. Probaly why it is the most visited park in the Washington State Parks system. |
