About the area |
Cheney is by and large a bedroom community to Spokane. The city of Cheney endeavors to provide its citizens with plenty of outdoor activities. To this end it has 7 city parks which provide facilities for swimming, tennis, baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and picnicking. Eastern Washington University, located in Cheney, started as a Teacher's College but is now a university offering undergraduate and Graduate studies in several majors including Education. It is the first university historic district to be included in the National Register of Historic Places. Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge is 5 miles South of Cheney. Its 16000 acres offer hiking trails and motorized trails to view the wildlife and magnificent landscape. Don't get confused about the Bush VP - Dick Cheney was congressman from Wyoming. |
