About the area |
Bellingham is a fairly large city with a population of over 75,000. It origionally grew which its use as the gateway to the goldfields of British Columbia. Later in the 19th century the discovery of coal beneath the surface in the Bellingham area led to the development of its coal mining industry which lasted for a century. Bellingham's Lake Whatcom is a beautiful freshwater lake nestled in the foothills between the shores of Puget Sound and magnificent Mount Baker stretching over 12 miles from end to end. |
