| About the area |
The City of Colfax came into being at the intersection of two rivers and three systems of rails. Then the logging and lumber milling industries were established. Then ranching and wheat farming followed and a flour mill was added. Colfax has a western character with hunting for deer, pheasant, chukars, partridge in season and fishing is a local passion. The Snake river which is located about 20 miles from town offers year round fishing. Colfax is also popular with retirees. It's quiet here and there is the convenience of a hospital and medical center, convalescent center, retirement condominium community and assisted living apartments. Only a lack of rocking chairs, who needs them with all the outside activities avaiable.
