About the area |
The name Hurley refers to M.A. Hurley who won a lawsuit and instead of a fee he requested the town be named for him. County Seat and population of about 2,000. Back in the thirties alcohol prohibition was rejected here.
The Flambeau Trail and north to south route for the native Americans crossed through here before the Europeans arrived. The Finnish American Cultural Center and Harma House, Finnish homestead can be found at US2 and 51. Edna Ferber's novel "Come and Get It" was researched here and is the fictional town referred to in her book. |
