About the area |
Located on the western shore of Green Bay, the community is known as "History on the Bay". Copper Culture State Park represents the Copper Culture which existed here around 5,000 or 6,000 BC. It contains the oldest cemetery in the nation. The Copper Culture hunted and fished here. In the 1600's the French Canadians conducted the fur trade. In the 1850's it was lumbering. There are many historic buildings here and also the Ocono Marsh State Game Refuge. I 41 and WI 22 will bring you to Oconto. |
