About the area

West Bend was named for being on the western bend of the Milwaukee River. US 45 is the highway to get here. The Lac Lawrann Conservancy with 104 acres and 5 miles of trails is the place for environmental education. The Eisenbaahn State Trail has 5 acresand 2 miles of paved trail for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. In September you can enjoy the Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival in a beautiful outdoor setting under a tent. Always a strong econmy here, Ripley's Believe It or Not claims it is the only city that did not enter the Great Depression. The community did not like the fact that sexually explicit books in the library were not segregated. The library refused to change this and four members of the board were voted out.
