Whitesville Municipal Court

The ever present SR 3 runs through Whitesville as well.

Whitesville was previously known as Jarrold's Valley and Pritchard City and was incorporated in the Summer of 1935 by the Boon county Circuit court. In April of 2010, the Upper Big Branch coal mine was the scene of the worst mine disaster in forty when 29 miners died in an explosion. A 48-foot-long spiky black granite slab, set upright along the highway into town engraved with 29 ghostly life-size silhouettes of the dead miners was built as a memorial to the miners who died in that disaster and to all coal miners who have suffered illness, injury, or death while working in the coal industry. The story of coal in West Virginia, a coal miners tribute and a list of those killed in the explosion is etched on the back of the monument.
