About the area |
There is a legend in Flatwoods which all started with a sighting by five boys of what they thought was a large fiery object they saw descend from the sky. Two of the boys and there mother later went to the spot where they thought the object landed. They claimed to have seen a monstrous being with a red face and orange, glowing eyes that was about twelve feet tall. The legend has built up through the years to where this now there is a lecture hall and museum, attached to a general store, with enlarged photos, drawings, posters, and news clippings of the 1952 Flatwoods UFO encounter. Periodically there is a meeting held to commemorate the sighting including lectures. |
