About the area

The year 1810 saw the arrival of the first settler to the Grantsville area. After much arguing by the communities in Clahoun over which one should be the county seat and at the conclusion of the Civil war a new municipality was founded and named in honor of General Ulysses S. Grant and established as the county seat. At the beginning of the twentieth century the discovery of oil at Yellow Creek contributed to the rapid growth of Grantsville. The later discovery of natural growth also contributed to the growth and prosperity of the city and the two natural resources continue to contribute to the economy of Grantsville.
