About the area |
The African American Heritage Family Tree Museum in Ansted has displays exhibits representing the history of the African-American life during the days of the Underground Railroad and the challenges they faced for freedom. Also displayed are artifacts of Thomas Friend who used the cellars of his wine business to hide escaping slaves, educator Booker T. Washington and Carter G. Woodson. For aan exciting afternoon take one of the New River jet boats at Hawkâs Nest State Park. The park covers over 270 acres
in which you may see hawks, turkey vultures, black vultures and an occasional bald or golden eagle soaring above the canyon.
