About the area |
There are four old homes worth visiting in Romney. The oldest house in Romney and the oldest public office building in the U.S.; the Wilson-Wodrow-Mytinger House consists of three separate buildings. One of the first homes built by freed slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation in Hampshire County is the William Washington House. The Gibson-Wirgman-Williams House is a 19th-century Greek Revival plantation home overlooking the South Branch Potomac River. Taggart Hall built in the 1790's is now the Civil War Museum & Visitors Center which is home to the Fort Mill Ridge Foundation and its Fort Mill Ridge Civil War Trenches museum. |
