Dr. Bowen's House is one of the parts of a log building circa 1824, the other part is now the home of the Potomac Highlands Guild. When the building was sold in the late 1880's it was divided into two parcels with an alley between. Dr. William Bowen, who had moved his medical practice to Moorefield from Stephen City, Virginia, took the Southern portion for his home. A part of the original structure has been preserved and it is possible to see the original hand-hewn beams. The Homer Carr Home circa 1912 which was built by a lawyer, who came to Moorefield to practice, and his wife is another old residential structure still standing in this city. The home changed hands many times with a beauty parlor operating out of the front room of the house at one time. The present owners have completed a a renovation of the house and have opened it to the public.
