About the area |
The Treasure Mountain Festival is held each September to remember the settlers from Fort Seybert who around 1758 were captured by the Shawnee Indians. It is believed that the Indians who were carrying the valued possessions and treasures of the settlers in an iron kettle; buried the kettle somewhere on South Fork Mountain along which the group trudged. Events at the festival include the Texas Scramble Golf tournament, an antique cars, trucks and tractors show, live entertainment including music, storytelling, a Jousting tournament and a pancake breakfast. Campsites at Fort Seybert are available for this festival. In remembering the events for which this festival is a held; a reenactment of the fort burning at Fort Seybert is held. |
