Each October is time for the Black Walnut Festival in Spencer. Of course you know that there is going to be a Black Walnut Sweepstakes at this event; where the finest mature black walnut and hickory nut produce from around the state win awards. There are other competitions as well; the bake contest, Photography show and contest, Quilt show and contest with several categories eligible for prizes and the 4-H and Future Farmers of America Youth Livestock show. The Grand parade takes place on the second day of the festival featuring the areas finest high school marching bands which proceed to the competition for the best band. The festival queen and princesses, mini race cars and old time tractors also take part in this parade. In addition there is live musical entertainment at the street concerts and plenty of good food and you can purchase one pund packages of those great black walnuts. |
