Middlebourne Circuit Court

Middlebourne Circuit Court is the Second Circuit Court of Tyler County in the Judicial Circuit Court system of West Virginia.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Middlebourne Historic District is a good example of the history of the city. Attics and parapets appear on most of the buildings with fanciful sawn, turned, incised, and openwork wooden ornamentation applied around windows and doors, in cornices, and at the apex of gables. One section of the district includes the Neo-Classical and Baroque Tyler County Courthouse, the companion County Jail of 19th century penal architecture and the Neo-Classical Revival Tyler County High School. In another section you will find the commercial buildings along Main Street such as the brick Romanesque Revival First National Bank and the Victorian Gothic Swan & Jemison Grocery as well as the two story residences of the merchants. The third section is made up of residences, dating from the end of the 19th century and first two decades of the 20th century, characterized by their broad porches and lawns as well as the over-sized houses bearing towers, turrets, and deep porches, examples of the Victorian style.
