Buckhannon is home to West Virginia Wesleyan college. This school founded around 1890 first occupied a new three-story brick building. This building was consumed by fire around 1905; but replaced the following year by the building which remains standing on the campus. The school awards Bachelor degrees in 43 majors such as Accounting, Biology, Communication Studies, Computer Science,
Education, Engineering, Graphic Design, Marketing and Mathematics. The Graduate programs offer the Master's degree in Master of Business Administration, Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Master of Science in Athletic Training, Master of Science in Nursing and Education. The school is also a cultural center for the community with its Arts Alive annual fine and performing arts series. This series offers art exhibits, drama presentation, musical performances and dance festivals which are open to the public.
