This is the city where three railroads; the Norfolk and Western, Baltimore and Ohio and Chesapeake and Ohio crossed in the late 1800's. In the first half of the 20th century it was a busy place for railroad activity with more coal crossing through the city than anywhere in the world. Dreamland pool, which opened as a private pool in the 1920's and in the 1970's was taken over by the city of Kenova, is large with dimensions over 125 fee by 250 feet and deep end reaching a depth of 9 feet. a dance pavilion added to the main building was a huge success featuring featuring touring Big Bands such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong; but alas just prior to its purchase by the city the main building was destroyed by fire. The last weekend of each October the annual the Ceredo-Kenova Autumn Fest in the two communities with its centerpiece Pumpkin House display of over 3,000 jack-o-lanterns.
