Pioneer field was built prior to the 1993 baseball season as the home field for the West Virginia Coal Sox
of the Frontier League. However the team folded in short order due to poor attendance, less than 120 people per game in this town of about 1100.. As a result this field which is on the grounds of Wayne County High School is now used for high school games. There are only wooden bleachers here, not particularly safe, but the ballfield is in reasonably good condition.
