| About the area |
Wayne really had its start as a city when the first meeting of the county court was held in the Spring of 1842 at the home of an early settler who gave his name to the city then known as Trout Hill. The city was then named the county seat in honor of this settler on whose land the town was plotted. The court was first house in a log cabin. Around 1860 the town was incorporated as Fairview however the residents often referred to the town as the Wayne Court House because it occupied a position as a center of the area's social and economic life. As a result at the beginning of the second decade of the 20th century, the town was renamed Wayne.
