If you want to see people take apart lumber rapidly, come to the annual Webster County Woodchopping Festival held in Webster Springs in May on Baker's Island. That's not all you will see if you attend; the festival starts with the Firemen's parade and the West Virginia State Championship Firemen's Rodeo. This state wide set of competitions include such contests as the as the bucket brigade and Firemen's Challenge. Besides the Paul Bunyan Grand Feature parade there are such exhibitions as the Car and Truck show, the Motorcycle show and the beauty pageants. The World Championship Woodchopping events include the Axe Throw, Two Man Cross Cut, Hot Saw and One Man Chopping. There are also outdoor concerts, food, arts, crafts and many other things finishing with a bang in the fireworks display.
