ABOUT THE AREA
Friendship is an appropriately-named town in the middle of Allegany County, with a population of just under 2,000. It's very proud of its history (the fire departmant recently won an award for restoring an 1881 steam-powered fire engine). Along with the nearby town of Cuba, Friendship is a large producer of cheese, Friendship Dairies being one of the main local businesses. Originally the town was called "Fighting Corners," due to several feuds. When the feuding was resolved, the name was changed to reflect this. The Southern Tier Expressway (a combination of I-86 and NY Rt.17) runs through town, intersecting with Route 275.
