ABOUT THE AREA
Mahwah gets it's name from the work "mawewi". It is said that native Indian residents in 1600s called this place "mawewi" or 'a place where many paths intersect'. I-287 and Route 17 merge in Mahwah, and U.S. Route 202 and Route 59 also pass through. This town has a population of around 25,000 residents and completely self-sufficient with high-tech hospitals, Inserra Supermarkets which has nearly 22 stores all over the town, 4 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. The town also has an active night life especially in the downtown area. Students from the nearby Ramapo College usually socialize and go for drinks to the downtown area.
