ABOUT THE AREA
Bath lies along the Kennebec river. Summer, on Tuesdays and Fridays from late June to late August, is the time for the Gazebo Concert Series at Library park. Try to attend; you might hear some music you like. You can enjoy the live music, parade, boat parade and fireworks during Heritage days early each June. The Bath Iron Works part of General Dynamics Marine Systems, located here, provides a large portion of the employment to the area. The Maine Maritime Museum, located South of the Bath Iron Works includes exhibits on the maritime history of Maine such the restored Percy & Small Shipyard and its buildings, the Apprentice Shop boatbuilding school, a lobstering exhibit, and, when in port, a 142-foot fishing schooner. There are even exhibits representative of early fishing methods, shipbuilding, small boats, engines and steam yachts, lobstering, navigation, ship's models and paintings, sailors' memorabilia, and all sorts of coastal lore. For the kids there is a play boat for complete with crow's nest and a make believe cargo of sand.
