US 78 seems to be the main street of Leeds, but US 411, SR119, Ashville Road and Whitmire Street are other good roads to get around town.

Leeds is the city in Jefferson County which is closest to the meeting with two other counties St. Clair and Shelby. Leeds, Alabama's historic Southern Railway Depot was built in the 1880's following the completion of the Georgia & Pacific Railroad line between Birmingham and Atlanta. Later, when the depot was no longer used; the City of Leeds turned the baggage room into a public meeting room and added museum rooms in the Depot, which feature railroad history, records and artifacts. The Depot was selected by the National Register as an Historic Place.
