Florence lies on the Tennessee river and a part of its wonderful riverfront is the very large McFarland park. This park has quite a few campsites, a driving range, soccer field, picnic shelters, playgrounds, boat ramps, fishing piers, baseball fields, a jogging trail, beach area, floating restaurant, and a marine store. Located nearby is Wildwood Park which has a nature trail, pavilion, picnic tables, and mountain bike trails. Florence Municipal park is also located in the area of these two parks. Pope’s Tavern Museum was used as a hospital for both Union and Confederate wounded during the Civil War. It exhibits artifacts and beautiful antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries, Civil War artifacts and items of local history. North Alabama University cosists of the colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education and Nursing & Allied Health offering more than 60 majors in which Undergraduate and Graduate degrees are awarded.
